Hualian Weeks 3 & 4

Week 3

Hey All,

This week started off strong with a pday to the beach. We were originally going to play Frisbee on the beach but it turned out to be a rock beach with no sand so instead we just took some nice pictures and then went and got shaved ice!

Tuesday we had a district council where our district leader taught us how to "clear rooms" (he is a Marine) and likened it to the Gospel and working with members! We only died a few times in our attempts!

We also visited a returning Member that night who said he would try that night to set one of his close friends up to meet with us all to learn about the gospel!

We had a cool finding miracle night this week. Background...

A few weeks ago we were knocking doors in a neighborhood and found two potential people. A 14 year old kid who said we could visit his family in the coming days and then an older woman who we set up to meet later that week. Unfortunately neither of those worked out and we tried to visit the kids family a few more times in the last two weeks but it never worked out.

So the other night we went to visit again at 8pm or so but still no one was there. We went to visit another potential in the area and actually got to share a quick lesson with him. After we went back to try and find that family one last time and still no one was there but as we sat outside the door on our bikes a lady drives up on her scooter right up to the house. Turns out to be the lady we set up back a few weeks ago, who also turns out to be the mom of the 14 year old kid! both people we set up that night were in the same family! We got to Share a quick message with the mom and set up to meet with the son and mom before English class this week. It was pretty sweet!

It was a good week. Also went on an exchange with Elder Zhao. The first native Taiwanese companion I have ever got to work with. It was a lot of fun. Learned some good Chinese stuff.

Week 4

This week's pday was pretty chill. Played lots of card games, played some Frisbee with all the elders in Hualian and a member. Ate some hot pot with unlimited ice cream. It was a good time.

Tuesday morning I ran for exercise with out District Leader and man, it is so frustrating how different running and biking are. I can bike hard for a long time and be pretty fine but I try to do a short run in the morning and feel like my veins are about to explode! I got to start running more my friends! After that painful start to the day we had a good time. Good district council. Our district broke the previous District record for new friends this week by getting 12 which was awesome.

We also got to talk with our bishop for a long time at night about missionary work in the ward. we are working on a lot of plans and goals to help get the ward motivated to do more misssionary work as the bishop has recently been inspired to get more member misssionary work going. It's an exciting time to be in the Hualian 2 ward!

Wednesday after English class I ended up answering some questions one of our students asked me about the church. Ended up teaching a lot of stuff covering from the first lesson to the word of wisdom. Funniest part is she is actually one of the sisters friends but I taught her more in those 20 minutes than the sisters have been able to teach her so far!

On Thursday we went out on splits with a random member and it was kind of awkward because we were sent by the ward mission leader to go visit some returning members but none of them were home so that went by in 10 minutes and we went knocking a little after that but litterally every hose rejected us way hard! Elder Berges and I have never been rejected so hard. Our poor member got to be persecuted with us for a half hour or so! he was cool about it though.

Yeah those were pretty much the highlights. Hope you have a good week.

The "fenglin snail" at the fenglin train station. Fenglin is a really in the middle of nowhere part of our area that other missionaries cover but is technically our area because it's just a branch down there.
A funny place in our area with a 7-Eleven and a family Mart (the two biggest convenience store chains in Taiwan) split by a tea shop. It pretty much captures Taiwan! Hahaha

Elder Berges and I have been doing more studies in cool locations to get out of the 7-Elevens. This was one place we went by this cool memorial thing on a mountain side.
